The summer has finally arrived to Wisconsin. After a long winter, many people are eager to engage in outdoor and summer activities. One outdoor activity that becomes more common during the spring and summer months is motorcycling. Motorcycling is supposed to be an enjoyable alternative mode of transportation, but it can pose additional hazards to the driver if he or she is involved in an accident. Motorcycles do not provide protection for drivers if there is an impact, therefore even a minor accident can cause serious injuries to the motorcyclist. Recently, an accident involving a motorcycle occurred in Waukesha County.
The accident occurred on Saturday, June 27th during the afternoon. From the initial investigation of the accident, it appears that a motorcycle traveling southbound down a roadway lost control. Losing control of the motorcycle caused the driver to enter into the northbound lane of traffic. When the driver entered into the northbound lane a collision occurred with another motorcycle. Tragically, one of the motorcyclist passed away as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident. The other motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Law enforcement officials do not believe that drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident. The accident caused the roadway to be shut down for several hours during the investigation.
This accident demonstrates the importance of being vigilant for motorcycles on the roadways. Because of the serious consequences motorcycle accidents can have, it is important for motorcyclist and motor vehicle drivers alike to practice safe driving. Drivers should keep their full attention on the roadways, travel at a speed in accordance with the speed limit, and ensure that they are not engaging in distracted driving. By practicing safe driving, we can all help to keep the roadways safe for both automobiles and motorcycles.
