We use products that have been purchased in our everyday lives. We expect those products we use to be safe for our use and consumption. Unfortunately, that is not always the case. Sometimes the products we use and consume pose risks for our health or safety. When a potential hazard with a product becomes known, it is common for the company that produces the product to issue a recall for that product. Recently, a popular water bottle brand has issued a recall for some of its water bottles.
The water bottle maker, Contigo, has issued a recall for around 5.7 million of its water bottles that were designed for children. The recall comes after free that the spout of the bottle can detach. If the spout detaches it poses a potential choking hazard for the children using the water bottles. This is the second recall involving the water bottles. The first recall included replacement lids for the water bottles and occurred in August 2019.
Thus far, the company has received 427 reports of the spout detaching from the bottle. In 27 of the those reports, it was reported that the spouts had been located in the mouths of the children who were using the bottle. The bottles were sold at various retailers including Costco, Walmart, Target and other online outlets from April 2018 through February 7, 2020. The recalled bottles have a black colored spout base and spout cover. The bottles were sold in 13 ounce, 14 ounce and 20 ounce sizes.
People who own these bottles should stop using them immediately. The consumers should also stop using the replacement lids that were provided in the recall. Consumers who own one of the recalled water bottles will be able to return to the water bottle and receive a free replacement bottle. Consumers can visit the Contigo website for more information about the recall.
