The holidays are here, and with the arrival of the holidays, there is an increase in travel. Many people from across the country travel to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. To get to their destinations, people will be traveling via motor vehicles, airplanes, trains, buses, and ships. Overall, AAA predicts that there will be 115.6 million people traveling this holiday season.
AAA predicts that the number of people traveling this years will be a 3.9% increase over the amount of people who traveled last year. Further, AAA believes that 4.3 million more people will be traveling this year than last year. The majority of the travelers will be using motor vehicles to get to their travel destinations, with a predicted 104 million of the travelers using motor vehicles for their travels.
The peak travel period during this holiday season is from Saturday, December 21 through Wednesday January 1. Out of all the days during the travel period, AAA predicts that the roadways will be most crowded and congested on Thursday, December 26. The high amount of travelers will likely cause slow downs and delays on the roadways.
To help keep yourself and your passengers safe while making your holiday commute, you should be sure to practice safe driving. The following are some tips to help keep yourself and others safe on the roadways during your holiday travels:
- Leave with extra time to make it to your destination. By leaving with plenty of time you will have more time to make it to your destination if there are unexpected delays.

- Obey the speed limit and traffic signs. By ensuring that you follow all traffic laws, you can help prevent accidents.
- Avoid distracted driving. Avoid anything that will take your attention away from the roadways.
