High Number of OWIs in Milwaukee County
Driving in a motor vehicle can be a dangerous activity. The potential for danger increases when driving is mixed with alcohol. Because of the increased risk of motor vehicle accidents when someone is driving while under the influence of alcohol, law enforcement officials are cracking down on drunk driving to help keep the roadways safer.
On Monday, October 15th, the Milwaukee County Sherriff’s Department announced that over a period of four days, they arrested 15 people for driving while under the influence. The arrests occurred during the department’s “Operation Drive Sober” initiative. Of those arrested for OWI during the four day period, three of them were repeat offenders while the other twelve were first time offenders. The department commenced the initiative in hopes of deterring people from getting behind the wheel after they have been drinking.
