Bus Driver Saves Children from Fire on Bus

September 15 , 2016 | Car Accidents

On Monday, September 12, 2016 a school bus carrying 20 elementary school children and their bus driver in Maryland caught on fire. Smoke and flames erupted from the school bus, which was pulled over on the side of the road.

The bus driver, Reneinta Smith, acted quickly and thought on her feet. Ms. Smith escorted each elementary school student off the burning bus individually. After Ms. Smith got all of the students out of the bus, she went back into the burning bus to ensure that no students were on still on the vehicle.

Because of Ms. Smith’s quick actions, no children were injured in the school bus fire. Ms. Smith said that “it’s my job to save them” and that she herself is a mother of two.

The cause of the bus fire is still unknown, but the situation could have been much worse if it wasn’t for the actions taken by Ms. Smith.
