Red Light and Speed Cameras are a Possible Addition to Traffic Lights in Milwaukee

August 8 , 2016 | Car Accidents

A Milwaukee Alderman has made a proposal to add red light and speed cameras to traffic lights in Milwaukee. The Alderman hopes that the addition of the camera will reduce the number of accidents.

The cameras function by automatically capturing photographs of vehicles running red lights or exceeding the speed limit. If a driver is caught running a red light or speeding by the cameras, a photograph of the driver and a ticket is mailed to the car owner.

Getting the red light and speed cameras in Milwaukee will be an uphill battle. This is the second time that these cameras have been proposed. In 2007, the council voted to approve the cameras, but state lawmakers did not act on the legislation.

The proponents of the cameras believe that the use of this technology will help to save lives. They believe that the cameras will force drivers to slow down and be more aware of their surroundings.
