Sargento Cheese Recall

Cheese is a very popular food item, especially in Wisconsin. Because of cheese's popularity among Americans, it is quite concerning when there is a recall of it. One of the nation's largest producers of cheese, Sargento, has issued a recall for several different cheeses.

The recall of the various Sargento cheeses comes after the discovery that the cheeses may have been contaminated by listeria. Listeria is a dangerous infection caused by eating food that has been contaminated with listeria monocytogenes. The infection is most likely to affect those with weakened immune systems, pregnant women and adults 65 years and older. According to the CDC, the symptoms include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, fever, muscle aches and convulsions.

The main products affected by the recall are:

  • Sargento Ultra Thin Sliced Longhorn Colby
  • Sargento Chef Blends Shredded Nacho & Taco Cheese

Sargento has also recalled other products that were packaged on the same production line as the other recalled cheese. These products include:

  • Sargento Sliced Cobly-Jack Cheese
  • Sargento Sliced Pepper Jack Cheese
  • Sargento Chef Blends Shredded Taco Cheese
  • Sargento Off The Block Shredded Fine Cut Colby-Jack Cheese
  • Sargento Off The Block Shredded Fine Cut Cheddar Jack Cheese

Sargento has stated that they have no confirmed reports of illnesses from the affected cheese.

The company is encouraging consumers to go to their website to check the UPC codes on their cheese products to determine if the product is affected by the recall.
