Nissan Altima Recall

A recall has been issued for Nissan Altimas worldwide. The recall comes after the discovery that the doors on the vehicles have the potential to malfunction leading to the possibility that the doors will open unexpectedly.

The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration performed an investigation into why the doors were opening. They discovered that the lock cable in the car doors may not have been routed correctly during production, and in some circumstances the way the car window was installed can cause problems with the lock cable of the car door. If the rear window is lowered there is a posibility that the doors of the vehicle will open.

There have been several reported incidents of the car opening that could be related to the lock cable and window problems. According to Nissan, there have not been any motor vehicle accidents or injuries sustained because of the issues with the car doors.

Nissan received the first report of a door opening unexpectedly in the summer of 2016. The company investigated but could not determine how the problem ocurred. The company received a new report of the same problem in fall 2016, and believed the issue to be caused by a factory error. Nissan continued to receive reports of doors opening suddenly, and decided to recall the vehicles.

The vehicles affected by the recall are Nissan Altimas with model years from 2015 to 2017. The vehicles affected by the recall were sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico and South Korea. A majority of the recalled vehicles were sold in the United States and Canada.
